Supported Summer Read (Whatever it Takes)

Author Week (Whatever it Takes)

Supported Summer Read engages the selected pupils over a period of approx 15 weeks in an evidenced based key intervention alongside a light touch Reading Coaching programme which blends a combination of 1-to-1 tuition, effective feedback and self regulation. The project then culminates in a high profile, one off event in which pupils take part in a variety of engaging and inspiring activities which matches high interest and low ability books and promote reading for pleasure during the 6 weeks summer period.  Pupils continue to be supported by their Secondary school who provide on a one to one basis Reading Buddy/Mentor for a period of 10 weeks.

Project Impact

On average pupils make 12 months gains in reading age over the life of the project.  These pupils are those who are deemed likely to regress in their reading abilities during the summer period.
