Islam and Citizenship Education

Islam and Citizenship Education

The aims of the ICE project are to educate pupils aged 7 to 14 (Key Stage 2 and 3) about Islamic tradition, values and their roles and responsibilities in society as good Muslims.  The project promotes citizenship education in independent and supplementary Muslim schools through the development of appropriate online resources and materials for teachers and pupils.

The project has developed 22 lessons for both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.  The approach is essentially to teach citizenship values through the Islamic perspective and the overarching conclusion is clear: citizenship values and Islamic values are broadly compatible - all participants agreed that to be a good Muslim is to be a good citizen.
